how can I manually shut down the monitor/screen but keep the computer going.

I know all about the power options, and I try to set them to turn off the moniter after X number of mintues and it only works occasionally.

Also, My screensaver is not coming on.

Im not sure if this is coz I have a bit torrent running in the background, but I am wondering if there is a way to turn off the moniter manually while keeping the rest of the PC going?

An Fn+F7, F8, or F9 depending on the brand of laptop would change your output signal to an external monitor. Just cycle through those to a VGA? source and you should see nothing on your screen. then when you want to turn it back on Fn+FX back to you laptop display.

Control panel, power options should have a menu to set the # of minutes to keep the monitor on when inactive.
